Nadia Shelbaya
Born in Copenhagen to an Egyptian mother and Danish father, Nadia Shelbaya grew up in a world rich in contrasts. Her summers spent in Cairo with her grandparents remain engraved in her mind: the lively alleys, the enveloping warmth, and above all the dazzling elegance of her grandmother, a woman fascinated by jewelry, always ready to pass on this love with generosity. In Copenhagen, the workshop of her father, a welder, became a playground for her, where she discovered the pleasure of working with materials, combining shapes, textures and colors.
Her academic career reflects her desire to go beyond the visible. Studying literature and rhetoric at the Sorbonne meant learning to read between the lines, to listen to silences, to capture the beauty of nuance. In London, she trained in gemmology at the GIA, but it is above all her intuition that guides her approach to stones. Nadia isn't just interested in shaping objects: she wants to tell stories, evoke sensations. Her creativity is often expressed in moments of calm or melancholy - she speaks of an almost intimate connection between her states of mind and the forms that emerge beneath her hands.
