Amethyst
La couleur violette de l’améthyste nourrit les récits depuis des siècles. Son nom, issu du grec a-methustos signifiant « qui n’est pas ivre », est lié à la légende de la nymphe Amethystos. Pour la protéger des avances de Dionysos, dieu du vin, elle aurait été transformée en cristal de roche ; furieux, Dionysos renversa son verre qui teinta la pierre d’une profonde nuance pourpre.
Longtemps rare dans l’Antiquité, l’améthyste fut ensuite découverte en grande quantité au Brésil et au Mexique, puis en Belgique, en France, à Madagascar, en Finlande et au Canada. Appréciée des Étrusques et des Égyptiens pour ses qualités décoratives, elle resta pendant des siècles un matériau destiné aux rois et aux hauts dignitaires religieux.
Aujourd’hui, sa couleur et sa lumière en font une pierre prisée par des créateurs tels qu’Ivarene, Dorette ou Lena Skadegard.
Dans de nombreuses traditions, l’améthyste est associée à des significations symboliques. Certaines croyances estiment qu’elle aiderait à apaiser la peur, le stress ou la colère, et favoriserait une sensation de calme ou de clarté. Elle est également parfois liée à des idées de purification.
