Yasuko Azuma
Born in Sapporo, on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, Yasuko Azuma moved to New York in 1994 to pursue her dream of studying jewellery at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology.
She launched her eponymous brand in 2002, infusing her pieces with a timeless delicacy and subtle poetry. Her pieces are instantly recognisable by their signature gold texture, which she calls “diamond dust”: a delicate hand-hammered finish that catches the light like sunlit frost or shimmering water.
Guided by a deep appreciation for imperfect materials, Yasuko gravitates toward grey, smoky, and included diamonds, as well as richly coloured stones like tourmaline. Each jewel is set in softly textured 18k gold, meticulously shaped by her hands. The result is an understated yet bold elegance — as if each piece were a treasure weathered by time and the seasons.
In her Brooklyn studio, every creation takes shape under her expert eye, celebrating simplicity and the quiet beauty of the natural world. Her designs often echo the soft, mystical aesthetic of Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke, honouring the uniqueness of those who wear them — and revealing a beauty that needs no embellishment.
