Prehnite
Prehnite takes its name from Dutch colonel Hendrik von Prehn, who brought the stone to Europe in the 18th century after encountering it in South Africa. Its most iconic colour is a soft, milky green with translucent depth, sometimes marked by delicate internal veils or fibrous inclusions.
Found in South Africa, Australia, China and the United States, prehnite is a silicate whose fibrous structure gives it a gentle, diffused appearance — calm, balanced and almost meditative. When polished, it reveals a soft, satin-like sheen, less reflective than crystal but quietly luminous.
Across various traditions, prehnite is associated with serenity, clarity and emotional ease. It is often described as a stone that encourages self-awareness and calm, thanks to its subtle colour and soothing presence.
In contemporary jewellery, prehnite is valued for its distinctive green — fresh, pastel and refined — which designers use to bring a quiet luminosity and a soft touch of colour to their creations.
