In the 15th century, Spanish conquistadors named the jade stone "Piedra de ijada" - the pit stone, in reference to the iliac fossa. Jade is indeed a stone known to soothe the kidney pain. It has a smooth grain appearance ans it is particularly soft to the touch. Jade is an ornamental stone, usually from light to dark green. Some stones may also be blue, brown, gray, purple, orange or red.
Jade belongs to the silicates Family. Although this stone can be of different colors, most jades are green, ranging from a very light green to a bright green. Rare jades can be found with pink or black colors.
Jade comes in two varieties: the Nephrite, found especially in China, New Zealand, Canada and Russia, and the Jadeite found in Guatemala, Burma and Kazakhstan among others.
Jade is a protective stone, that keeps the wearer from harm and brings harmony. Jade is also a symbol of honesty and tolerance. Jade removes guilt and allows to confront the wearer to life realities. Jade also has its virtues on migraine and fever, but it is for its virtues on kidneys that this stone is recognized.
At the time we used jade to make axes or art objects made by Chinese artists... Indeed jade is China's favourite stone! In Chinese antiquity, the use of this stone is very protected and regulated. It was considered that a Chinese owning a jade object or jewel would find the dignity of the Empire. Jade is indeed the symbol of absolute power. Many legends have contributed to the image of the stone in China.
