Vermeil
The glow of gold, without the excess.
Gold vermeil is the subtle union of two precious metals: a sterling silver base, coated with a thick layer of gold through electroplating. More refined than standard gold plating, vermeil offers the look and warmth of 18k gold—without the price tag of solid gold. In France, the term is strictly regulated: the gold must be at least 18 karats, with a minimum thickness of 5 microns.
Durable, radiant, and hypoallergenic, vermeil is gaining ground among designers and collectors alike. It allows for bold, sculptural designs with all the comfort and quality of fine jewellery.
How to care for it
Like all precious pieces, vermeil jewellery deserves a gentle touch. Avoid contact with water, perfume, and household chemicals. Store your pieces separately in a soft pouch to prevent friction. To clean, simply use lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse well, and dry with care.
And when the gold starts to fade?
Over time, a natural patina may develop—especially in areas that see frequent contact. Vermeil can easily be replated, allowing your jewellery to shine again and again for years to come.
At WHITEBIRD, vermeil finds expression in the contemporary creations of Charlotte Chesnais, Grainne Morton, and Ivarene—singular, precious pieces designed to elevate every style with a golden touch.
